TV

LG C-series OLED (55"+)

Budget pick: Hisense U8 series Mini-LED

GTA 6 targets HDR on PS5 and Xbox Series X. An OLED's per-pixel contrast makes Vice City's neon nights look the way the trailers do; a 120Hz panel future-proofs you for a performance mode.

PS5 Storage

WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB (with heatsink)

Budget pick: Crucial P5 Plus 1TB

GTA 6's install size is expected to be one of the biggest ever shipped. The PS5's stock drive fills fast, and an M.2 expansion means you never delete your library to make room.

Xbox Storage

WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card 1TB

Budget pick: Seagate Storage Expansion Card 512GB

Xbox Series X|S only runs current-gen games from the internal drive or an official expansion card, and a USB drive won't cut it for GTA 6.

Controller

DualSense Edge / Xbox Elite Series 2

Budget pick: Standard DualSense / Xbox Wireless Controller

Back paddles let you drive and shoot without claw grip, the single biggest input upgrade for open-world chaos. The stock pads are fine; the pro pads are a luxury that lasts years.

Headset

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7

Budget pick: PlayStation Pulse 3D / Xbox Stereo Headset

GTA Online is a social game, and you'll live in voice chat with your crew. A solid wireless headset with a decent mic matters more than audiophile drivers.

What You Can Skip

You do notneed a PS5 Pro to enjoy GTA 6. Rockstar is building the game for the base PS5 and Xbox Series X|S first. You don't need a gaming monitor if you play on a couch, and you don't need an 8K TV for a game with no 8K mode.

If you upgrade one thing before launch, make it storage, it's the cheapest fix for the most predictable launch-day problem. The TV is the biggest visual upgrade if yours is older than ~2020.

Setup FAQ

Do I need a new TV for GTA 6?

No. GTA 6 will look great on any modern 4K TV. But it targets HDR on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and an OLED or high-end Mini-LED panel makes a visible difference in Vice City's neon-heavy night scenes. If your TV is pre-2020 or not 4K, this is the upgrade year.

How much storage will GTA 6 need?

Rockstar hasn't published a final install size, but based on the game's scale, expect one of the largest installs of this console generation. If your PS5 or Xbox internal drive is regularly full, an expansion drive before November 19 will save you from deleting your library.

Will GTA 6 run at 60 FPS on console?

Rockstar hasn't confirmed performance modes yet. The base game targets PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; a 120Hz-capable TV with HDMI 2.1 ensures you're ready if a performance mode ships at launch or later.

Is a pro controller worth it for GTA 6?

For most players, no. The standard DualSense or Xbox controller is excellent. Pro controllers (DualSense Edge, Elite Series 2) earn their price if you play a lot of GTA Online, where back paddles genuinely help with drive-and-shoot situations.
