The current GTA Online is reaching its final form. Rockstar has begun the "slow burn" transition towards GTA Online 2.0, internally referred to as the Leonida Expansion. This isn't just a map update; it's a complete architectural reset.

The Grand Migration

Rockstar has confirmed that players can bring their character appearances and certain milestones to the new world. However, the economy is being re-indexed. To prevent "Shark Card Inflation," your bank balance in Los Santos will not carry over directly. Instead, veteran players will receive a "Founders Package" in Vice City, granting them prime real estate and exclusive early-game advantages.

"We are building an online world that feels as dense and reactive as the single-player campaign. No more empty lobbies; Leonida is built for 96 players."

New Criminal Structures

The "Nights" roadmap introduces localized gang warfare. In GTA Online 2.0, you don't just "own" a nightclub; you have to defend your turf from other player organizations in real-time. The world is persistent. If a rival crew blows up your warehouse, it stays damaged until you pay for repairs or retaliate.

Cross-Platform and Cross-Play

The most requested feature is finally coming. GTA Online 2.0 will support full cross-play between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC players will remain in their own ecosystem initially to prevent the "Modder Contagion" from affecting the console launch, but Rockstar is working on a more robust anti-cheat system for an eventual unified experience.

The era of Los Santos is ending. The nights of Vice City are about to begin.
